about

madam data:

slug/savior is a document of an encounter.
We have certain shared beliefs. For instance, that abstraction must be reclaimed from the white avant-gardists who would depoliticize it and put it into the service of empire.

Experimental forms (structural, timbral, lyrical) let us tell stories about ourselves outside of the monoliths of white supremacist cultural organization. We want to be prismatic. We want to be expansive and obscure and luminous. We want to carry living histories.

savan depaul:

Birthed from a freeform creative process, “slug/savior” is a collection of musings on survival and transcendence. Each verse, passage, and sample contributes to an ever-shifting series of polemics against the pervasiveness of empire. In a culture of genocide, we are seen as simple slugs solely driven by survival instinct. This project serves not only as a declaration of our will to survive but also as a ruthless exploration of the religions formed around us. A burning need to embody desired identities. A cry to topple the structures that press against our frames in search of something better.
